A Human Library is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to readers; a place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered.

What a joy. What a surprise. I was expecting to do a reading in my hometown, but it was a surprised tribute to me and my poetry instead. Three dozen or so friends gathered at the Ware Center to tell me my life's path has been worthwhile. It was such a joy to hear some of my poems read by friends. I am humbled. I am grateful, particularly to Jeff Rath, Eliot White, Meg Day, Dana Kinsey, Barbara Buckman Strasko, Daina Savage, Annie Ginder, Patty Hanahoe-Dosch, and special thanks to Marci Nelligan who set everything in motion. I will continue to strive to live up to their words.

"How can personal narrative restore some sense of order in a disintegrating world? Four poets discuss the power of poetry to bring us through times that are physically, spiritually—and yes, politically—challenging. Each will discuss how poems that bear witness to struggle—through our own stories and those of others—can inspire work that engages us all. "
